Our Vision - Breaking the Cycle

United Future Foundation is committed to sustainable and beneficial change in the lives of Ugandans. We strongly believe that education is the foremost way to achieve our goal of “breaking the cycle”. UFF has a clear organisational vision, centred on transparency, honesty and sustainability. Our experience and values mean that UFF is an organisation with a difference, making a difference.

Experience

The founders of UFF have proven expertise in community development across a wide range of projects in East Africa. Annabelle and Dave have previous knowledge of managing intercultural relations and hands-on experience of the socio-economic problems in Africa. The founders personal experience in aid work is complemented by the depth of experience in running non-government organisations within UFF’s board. Our board members have over 25 years experience in the management of non-profit organisations between them.

Community Involvement

UFF does not want to usurp the power of the Ugandan people in decision-making or fill employment positions at the educational centre with Western people. Only by incorporating the local community in this centre can UFF’s educational and development aims be met. Comprehensive community consultation and involvement in all stages of the project will ensure that the new school is a valuable and integral asset to the local community.

Whilst many useful structures have been built by foreign NGO’s, without an active role in the management finance and policy design, many of these projects cannot reach their full potential and benefit to the community. UFF will be involved in the ongoing management of the school and continue to seek opportunities to create improvements for the Ugandan people. We will also be open to change and seek improvements in our approach.

Role Model School

The school aims to be an exemplary ‘best practice’ model and set the standard for other Ugandan schools to follow. UFF is focussed on the long term sustainability of our projects. This means that we are committed to developing the best possible school model to “break the cycle”. We hope that our school model may eventually be replicable in other areas of Uganda.

Transparency

UFF believes that accountability is a key factor in the success of this project and has laid out a set of standards. We have undertaken to adhere to these standards to ensure the maximum benefit for the Ugandan community and transparency for our supporters.

Auditing: Obtain an independent accountant to keep financial records for UFF and accurately complete any paperwork required. These records will be available to sponsors so that any risks are transparent, and can be mitigated.

Payments: Only pay receipted work and keep detailed financial records of all outgoing and incoming monies.

Exchange rate: A fixed exchange rate (AUD $1 = UGS 1,700) will be used for all transactions so that estimates are fair and consistent despite currency fluctuations.

Oversight: UFF will ensure that there is someone onsite who monitors the use and reporting of child sponsorship funds. UFF will aim to employ a Ugandan manager with the sole role of ensuring that every child sponsorship dollar is accounted for and reaching its target.

Costs: UFF will minimise administration expenses, through seeking pro bono work and volunteer contributions, so that all donations will directly benefit the Ugandan people to the greatest extent possible.

We are dedicated to the continuing cause of fighting poverty and “breaking the cycle”.
